Va-Jay-Jay Jewels

No, I'm not talking about how your lady parts are jewels kept inside the sacred temple. Rather I'm showing a picture that I found via @schmiss of pendents being sold on Etsy meant to celebrate womanhood - but perhaps in a decidedly less tasteful manner than a Georgia O'Keefe painting.

The following is a twitter exchange between myself and @schmiss where we sexually objectify the son of the current Vice-President. The sexually attractive Attorney General of Delaware, Mr. Beau Biden.

What Does A Web Ad Say About Your Tech Saavy?

There's nothing quite like an election season.
The lack of sleep, the bitterness, the anger, the bitchiness, the back-stabbing and of course the campaign ads.

Right now, there's a race to fill Ted Kennedy's empty Senate seat. While the Democrats have been buying air time on television, the two Republican candidates have been sticking to the web.
Which brings me to this glorious gem that was released today:

The Gay Conversion of a Gay Film

Everyone's been a-buzz of Designer Tom Ford's Directorial Debut: A Single Man.

But now the oscar-buzzed film may soon face backlash from potential fans and possibly the LGBT community. It appears that the second trailer released for the film underwent a Gay Conversion ceremony and A Single Man turned into a story about a man and a women in love instead of Colin Firth getting it on with Matthew Goode.

I am all for the Sexual Objectification of Politicians

I came across this YouTube GEM thanks to my political junkies from ONTD_Political.
I don't even understand what it's saying, or what it's for. All I know is that it is made of awesomesauce.

Tomorrow is Election Day across America. I know CNN is really excited about it, they're hoping that tomorrow will bring their ratings back to what they were during the last election cycle (the cable news network is currently rated #3). But, I'm guessing that they'll have a difficult time garnering viewers. Although there is always high drama in politics, this election lacks any of the charisma of the presidential election, and in return has garnered little interest outside of the standard political junkies.

But this election season is important nonetheless. There's the mayoral race in Boston, where basically everyone is expecting Mayor Thomas Menino to continue his reign. Although, I personally don't really feel like very much is at stake in this election (I also don't technically live in Boston, so I don't vote in city elections), I'm hoping for a big upset from Michael Flaherty. Mostly because that'll be the greatest story of the season in this city. Mostly, I just want Sam Yoon to cast a spell over Boston because he looks like an Asian version of Harry Potter.

Regardless of the outcome of any of tomorrows races, the Anti-Gay Marriage ballot initiative in Maine will effect the entire nation. The strategy for the "Yes on 1" campaign has been strikingly similar to the same one that was used in California to pass Proposition 8.

Rachel Maddow breaks it down better than I can/will:

New Music! Chauffeur - "Soles of Fire"

The Fader has unleashed the video from the live performance of Mark Ronson's new band, Chauffeur.

The music is v. Ronson-esque with a tough of hip-hop, soul, and some funky synth piano beats. What do y'all think? New music revolution? Or just a side project for fun?
At their encore performance for their Use Your Sole Tour, Hanson decided to cover Michael Jackson's Thriller. The show was at the House of Blues in Houston on Halloween night. Michael Would Not Approve.

This is my reaction:

Daniel Merriweather is someone that needs to be blasting from your headphones RIGHT. NOW. His voice is soulful and earnest, and his music harkens back to a time when artists tried to add a sense of perfection to pop music.

Anyone that knows me knows that I (and my co-hort Candace Brooke) love Mark Ronson, mostly because I truly believe that he and the artists that he works with will bring a new era of music to the world.

Music, like fashion, is cyclical. Just like the 80s are running rampant in retail stores all over, the smooth jazz, funk, and R&B of the period from the 1950s to early 90s is slowly emerging - albeit with a new take with synths and sampling.

Daniel Merriweather's Myspace

One of the really outstanding tracks off his new Album Love & War  (already out in the UK, no word yet on when America will get hip to music that isn't synthesized auto-tune) is a duet with Adele, Water and a Flame.

The song is incredibly lovely and absolutely perfect to listen to if you're lovesick/just broke up with someone/obsessed with love songs/good music/have ears. I was so excited about the music video, and when I saw it today, I was sorely disappointed. Apparently Daniel Merriweather and/or his Record Company doesn't think it's possible for a big girl to have a sexually attractive mod boyfriend with a seductive singing voice. Adele has been replaced with a sad, beautiful blonde.

Stupid People Should Be Banned From Facebook

An article in Today's Guardian reveals the stupidity of many Facebook/Social Media users. This guy got caught by police because he bragged about it on Facebook.
It's no surprise that almost the entire world airs their life on the internet in one form or another through the internet.

Journalists use it to track down a lead, to get images, to network. Families use it to keep in touch with relatives they haven't seen in decades. Others use it to network and share bits about their lives and interesting information.

And now fugitives (using very bad spelling) use it to reveal their actions and whereabouts.

But the biggest mistake that this person did wasn't that he bragged about living the high life in Mexico, it was friending people all willy-nilly:

Although Sopo's profile was set to private, his list of friends was not. Scoville started combing through it and was surprised to see that one friend listed an affiliation with the justice department. He sent a message requesting a phone call.
What is the lesson to learn here? What can law-abiding citizens learn from this Darwin award winner? Friend people that you actually interact with on a regular basis.

But what really bothers me the most about this is that Maxi Sopo (and people like him) think that it's OK to disregard grammer, spelling, punctuation, and social norms on the internet.

With spectacular lack of caution, and in capital letters just in case anyone should miss the sentiment, on June 21 he wrote: "LIFE IS VERY SIMPLE REALLY!!!! BUT SOME OF US HUMANS MAKE A MESS OF IT ... REMEMBER AM JUST HERE TO HAVE FUN PARTEEEEEEE."

Stay classy Internet.

So, I love Blair Waldorf Leighton Meester probably more than is appropriate. I think she's fabulous, she's got a great body, a nice booty, a great personality, great fashion sense, and the only reason why I continue to watch Gossip Girl.

If it wasn't for Meester, I would have shut off Blake Lively's mumbles a long time ago.

But now, Meester has given me a reason to dislike her just a little bit.
And unfortunately, so has Robin Thicke.

On Tuesday morning, Leighton Meester premiered her new single, "Somebody To Love," featuring the incredibly sexy Robin Thicke. I have to say that I'm incredibly disappointed in the song.

As far as pop songs go, it's pretty forgettable and lackluster.

MUSIC VIDEO: "Life Is Better" - Q-Tip feat. Norah Jones

If you don't already own The Renaissance, you are missing out on one of greatest Hip-Hop albums of the last year. There's a reason why he's still so highly respected among the music and hip-hop community. The album brings you back to when hip-hop was more about the beats than the misogynistic lyrics, and of course, there are great collaborations on the album as well.

Love the video for the song with Norah Jones, it's oddly giggly and romantic, yes?

I came across this hilarious internet comic via, what else, but Twitter. (If you're not already following me, you should - I'm highly amusing). Out of this list of 10 things that everyone should stop tweeting about, I'm guilty of tweeting about at least one or two of them.

10 Things You Need To Stop Tweeting About [@oatmeal]

Here are my thoughts on the list of the 10 reasons:

1) What You Are Eating
I cannot agree even more. Tweets about food and what one is eating I feel contribute to the Babel of Twitter that Daniel Lyons pointed out in his Newsweek Op-Ed [Don't Tweet On Me]

2) Social Media
This is impossible to avoid. People that use twitter are obsessed with social media, to tweet about anything besides that would be like killing Twitter all together.

M+M Gubernatorial Tag Team

My (unedited) interviews with Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley. The interviews took place on the eve of Barack Obama's inauguration at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial stadium on January 19, 2009. Both governors share with me their plans for inauguration week and what they expect from the new Obama administration.

Obama The Faithful

Yesterday, CBN News got word of some new developments with the Obama Administration, and it had absolutely nothing to do with Cabinet selections that forget to pay their taxes. On Thursday morning (February 5), at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama will announce plans to create a "President's Council on Faith." The council will be made up of leaders from all world religions, and they will meet regularly with the president to "provide public policy input on faith related issues ranging from healthcare to poverty."

The first amendment of the US Constitution states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. So, in my interpretation of that particular amendment, I understand that the US federal government does not have the right to impose any laws that favor one religion over another, or in any way impose a religious doctrine on the American people. So, in regard to President Obama's proposal, does his faith-based council infringe on the First Amendment?

You Can't Hide

I love how much technology has grown in the past decade. I've been proud of being part of the generation that has grown along with the internet, cell phones, social networking, video games, and just about anything else involving coding of 1's and 0's. But, it gets to a point, where I have to say that the breaks have to be put on the technology train. I think it's time for technology to stop and take a breather for a bit.

Technically, it's legal to have inappropriate feelings towards Dev Patel ... but I'm an adult, and he has just been released from adolesence.

Purple Dreams

It was probably about five years ago when it suddenly became OK again for men to wear "feminine" colors. It's always been fine in high-end editorials, but now, those colors are finally entering the mainstream.
Personally, I feel like men should wear more off-the-cuff colors. Now, I'm not talking about a full purple suit (unless of course, you are a fictional character named Chuck Bass) but there is nothing wrong with a few select details.
